Ira Goldstone, the chief technologist at Tribune Broadcasting and one of the most well-respected engineers in TV broadcasting, confirmed this afternoon that he is leaving the TV station group, bringing to an end his 25-year stint with the company.

"It just seemed to be the time to try the next adventure, to wrap it up and move on," Goldstone told TVNEWSDAY. Most recently based at KTLA Los Angeles, Goldstone worked for Tribune for 25 years.

Goldstone said the decision to depart was "mutual and cordial."

Goldstone said he expects to reemerge in another role within the next few weeks or months. "I'm not the type to sit and do nothing," he said.

Goldstone is the latest in a series of top-level management changes at Tribune Co. and its TV station group since Tribune was taken private by investor Sam Zell late last year.

According to Goldstone, his successor is Hank Hundemer, vice president of engineering for The Other Company, a third-party broadcast management company that not only manages the the Tribune stations, but also for those of Local TV. It is headed by Randy Michaels, COO of Tribune Co.

Hundemer joined the management company in January after 13 years at WKRC Cincinnati.
