Help us say our "FINAL GOODBYE" to Two CHICAGO MUSIC LEGENDS: Dr. Wax Record Store & WHPK RADIO's OWN JP CHILL - Sunday February 28!
On February 20 the legendary Dr. Wax Record Store in Hyde Park (Chicago) will be closing its doors for good, after 30 years of serving the music community. Quite possibly, no other music retailer in the country has had a more positive impact than Dr. Wax has had, on the fans that have bought music there, as well as the artists that have sold their projects on its shelves.
In December 2009, Chicago radio bid farewell to a true legend. DJ JP Chill of WHPK 88.5FM retired after 23 years of bringing Chicago radio music fans some of the best and brightest stars of Hip Hop music. JP Chill’s radio show first hit Chicago airwaves in 1986, and is credited with being one of the earliest rap and hip hop radio shows in the country. JP’s radio show was a launching pad for many local, up-and-coming hip hop artists, providing radio airplay for them during a time when no other stations would air their music.
