Wondering what happened to Eddie Webb (again) on WLUP?

Program Director Rick Balis has announced that highly rated & regarded afternoon personality Eddie Webb is leaving the station as of Friday. Morning personality Byrd will now shift up to afternoons. Nighttime personality Pete McMurray shifts down to mornings.

According to Balis, Eddie Webb was NOT fired - has a syndication opportunity awaiting him. "We hate to see him go, but we get it," he said. "It's an exciting new era for him."

Eddie Webb rejoined WLUP in November of 2007, after spending a few years in other markets and opportunities, including being one of the original programmers or the rock stations for XM Satellite Radio. Prior to that, he worked at both WLUP & WRCX.

Morning host Byrd has only been the morning host for four months, since Jonathon Brandmeier was pushed out of the Emmis-owned radio rocker. He will now take over Eddie Webb's important time slot.

The on-again/off-again night & weekend host, Pete McMurray will now shift to mornings, the time slot recently held by his radio idol, Johnny B. Unlike the Brandmeier show, McMurray's will be music-focused, not entertainment driven. For the time being, evenings will be jockless.

As Webb also acted as the station's Music Director, that role also needs to be filled. Assistant Music Director Nicole Gamboa will now move up into that role.

Also announced today was the hiring of Walter Flakus as a part-time fill-in personality. Flakus was the keyboardist for the Chicago-based rock band Stabbing Westward.
