WVON-AM begins a new two-hour talk show, "African Diaspora Today", debuting this Sunday at 3:00pm on 1690 AM.
"African Diaspora Today" will discuss political, economic and cultural insights specific to Africa, Africans, and descendants of Africans.
The show is hosted by Dr. Carol L. Adams, who just this past November was named as the Chief Executive Officer for the DuSable Museum of African American History. Dr. Adams' impressive resume also includes being Chairman of the African American Studies Department at Loyola University, Executive Director of the Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois University, and Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
"In the tradition of WVON, "African Diaspora Today" is the voice of the people... not only in our local communities, but our communities around the world. "African Diaspora Today" delivers honest and informed topics about Africa and the Diaspora -- filling the void of local and national media coverage," said Dr. Adams in a statement this afternoon.
This weekend's guest will be Dr. Rick Kittles, founder of African Ancestry -- the world leader in tracing maternal and paternal lineages of African descent through DNA testing -- and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago.
WVON's "African Diaspora Today" replaces "The Paul Lisnek Show," which formerly held the Sunday 3:00pm-5:00pm timeslot. The new show is sponsored by the University of Chicago and Jewel-Osco.
