: A former 103.5 KISS-FM radio personality who solicited a Carol Stream boy for sex was sent to jail for six months Friday, but not before a judge gave the man a good scolding. : Michael Wawrzyniak, 25, also must undergo sex-offender counseling while serving 30 months of probation and register as a convicted offender for at least 10 years. : He faced up to five years in prison, but DuPage Circuit Judge Blanche Hill Fawell noted Wawrzyniak would be paroled without treatment after serving less than half the term. The defendant had a clean criminal past, but the judge questioned the lack of concern she said he continues to show for the child. : "There's no doubt in my mind you have a problem," Fawell said. "I honestly don't think you get it. I'm just astounded. You apologized to everyone, even your former employers for bad publicity, but yet not one sentence was said about the victim, who will probably suffer for the rest of his life by your actions." : Wawrzyniak began chatting with the 13-year-old boy on the Internet in December 2007. The two had sexual contact once, after Wawrzyniak drove to an agreed location on a side street near the boy's home, prosecutors said. : Afterward, the eighth-grader's parents learned of the inappropriate contact and alerted police. Carol Stream Detective Steven Cadle assumed the boy's Internet persona and chatted with Wawrzyniak online. Another rendezvous was arranged. : Police arrested Wawrzyniak Jan. 4, 2008, on the same residential side street in Carol Stream where the boy said they met earlier. Wawrzyniak, a part-time weekend DJ, was fired after his arrest. : Prosecutors were unable to charge Wawrzyniak with molesting the child because the boy initially lied to Wawrzyniak about his age. The boy said he was at least 18. : Prosecutors, though, said Wawrzyniak later admitted he knew the boy, who was small in stature, was a minor. The victim's mother said he has received counseling, but is forever changed. : "I always warned my children about the dangers of the Internet," she said. "I have learned you can't say, 'This will never happen to me.' I feel like the innocence of my child was stolen forever." : Wawrzyniak, known on the air as "Radio Boy," pleaded guilty in August to felony indecent child solicitation. Prosecutors Enza LaMonica and Michael Pawl sought a near-maximum term, while defense attorney Sam Amirante pleaded for probation. : Wawrzyniak asked for a second chance. : "I made a horrible mistake for which I'm truly sorry," he said. : Members of his family tearfully described a loving son and protective brother who graduated from college and worked two jobs to achieve his childhood dream of a career in broadcasting. They suggested Wawrzyniak's confusion about his homosexuality led to the criminal conduct. The judge also received several supportive letters from family, friends and former co-workers. : But no one mentioned the young boy, which outraged Fawell. : "I'll tell you right now, any violations, you're going to the department of corrections," she warned. "Good luck." : Deputies took Wawrzyniak into immediate custody. : He also is facing possession of child pornography charges in Cook County for explicit videos police said they recovered in his South Loop condo.
