When Eddie Webb announced that he was leaving WLUP-FM & Chicago for a new syndicated show & New York, there were not many details about the show revealed just yet. Here now are the details about Webb's latest project.
The new syndicated rock & roll radio show will be called "VH1 Classic Rock Nights." The show will air live from VH1's New York studios from 6:00pm-11:00pm (although some markets will tape delay the show). The nightly radio show will be featuring plenty of classic rock music, along with new in-studio interviews with the biggest names in classic rock, road reports from the classic rock artists' tours, promotions and giveaways, and vintage performances and interviews from VH1 Classic's vast classic rock archives.
"VH1 Classic Rock Nights" will also offer listeners several ways to interact with the station and host, Eddie Webb. In addition to a live studio hotline for call-in requests, the show's Web site VH1ClassicRockNights.com will feature streaming audio and video from in- studio interviews, news, links to affiliate sites and more. The show will also be connecting with fans via Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
Eddie Webb is a rock radio veteran. A true rocker, who lives & breathes the music, Webb first started on Chicago radio back in the Spring of 1998 on WRCX-FM. In the Fall of 1998, only six months after joining there, the Rock 103.5 format flipped and WLUP then hired Eddie Webb. His afternoon show on The Loop quickly became a successful, top rated show. Less than two years later, he exited WLUP to become the original Program Director for XM Satellite Radio's metal channel. After a few other stops, Webb returned to WLUP in early 2008 and again became a top rated afternoon show for the station. Shortly after that, he became the station's Program Director, but when Emmis Communications shifted those responsibilities to an out-of-state, remote programmer, Webb was named Music Director. In addition to his time with Chicago radio & XM, Webb has also worked at rock radio stations in Phoenix, Washington, D.C., Boston and Las Vegas. He began working in radio at the age of 15 at a small town in Iowa. In addition to his rock radio work, Eddie Webb has worked for Skid Row, Guns N' Roses and even ran the VIP program for Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzfest tour.
During his first week on the new "VH1 Classic Rock Nights," Eddie Webb will be in-studio with such special guests as Paul Rodgers of Free/Bad Company/The Firm/Queen, Ray Manzarek & John Densmore of The Doors, and Mick Jones of Foreigner. Special guests will be a regular occurrence for Webb & the show.
VH1 Classic and Westwood One own "VH1 Classic Rock Nights" and Cumulus Media will broadcast the live radio show to markets throughout the country. It is scheduled to begin on May 17th, with a reported 20 markets already signed on to carry the program. So far, no Chicago outlet has signed up for the show, though. WLUP, Webb's former home that claimed it would probably be picking up the show when it came out, has passed on it and will instead be going with Walter Flakus as its nighttime personality.
