Earlier Monday, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) announced the recipients of their 2009 Sigma Delta Chi Awards for excellence in journalism. The awards recognized outstanding work published or broadcasted in 2009 in the categories of print, radio, television and online. In total, almost 90 awards were handed out, chosen from over 1,300 entries. Out of those awards announced, the following were the Chicago-related 2009 Sigma Delta Chi winners:

The actual awards will be presented at the 2010 SPJ Convention and National Journalism Conference in Las Vegas on October 2nd.
