Chicago Sun Times columnist Jim O'Donnell took it upon himself for the second week in a row to rip on WSCR afternoon hosts Boers & Bernstein in his column. It's refreshing to see someone call out B & B. Their act got old a long time ago and their numbers reflect that fact!:

BOUQ-BRICKING: The addled afternoon swill-io on WSCR-AM (670) -- still featuring post-''caca'' Terry ''Wheezie'' Boers and withering bellhop Danny ''Boo Boo'' Bernstein -- continues.

Industry insiders wonder when upper CBS Radio management either steps in and forces program babysitter Mitch Rosen to drop the rattlers or overrides the knock-kneed Rosen and gets someone else to do it. Over/under on talent taking over the underachieving slot is Labor Day.

Verifiable reaction to last week's suggestion that change is long overdue in Der 'Schnore's sonic sewer ran an astounding 93 percent in agreement. British Petroleum reps handing out Wet-Naps in coastal Louisiana couldn't generate revulsion like that.

Typical was the comment of reader Scott Hipple, who noted: ''Try to listen for five minutes and all you can think is that no-talent bums like Boers and Bernstein give no-talent bums a bad name.''

Rosen emerged from his cocoon long enough to short-leash the hazy lapdogs for a day and actually: a) try to make them talk sports; and b) not insult callers. Result: just another strain of must-flee radio with ''Boo Boo'' babbling on, attempting to mock a story involving a gay escort service.

''Weird Terry'' then took Friday ''off'' while Bernstein played to the sounds of silence -- there's a surprise -- in a remote from a bad-lucked Wrigleyville bar. Moths were probably killing themselves on the light bulbs to get away.

Part of the 7 percent who defended the tripe meisters cited their spurious standing with a targeted ''adult male'' demographic.

Actually, with ''Wheezie'' and ''Boo Boo,'' it's probably a ''special'' demo of adult males who listen who are most likely to shoplift, own the complete Seka Betamax collection and don't have driver's licenses.

For the image and profitability of CBS Radio, the change cannot come soon enough.
