Kurt Hanson, who earlier in his professional life worked at WLS, WDAI, and WLUP in Chicago, and later began RAIN - the Radio And Internet Newsletter, will be bringing his RAIN Summit to the huge Conclave Learning Conference next month.
In Fall 1999, Kurt Hanson launched RAIN: Radio And Internet Newsletter, a 100% web-based newsletter and forum that has become a leading news source and voice of the worldwide Internet radio community. RAIN focuses on all forms of alternatively delivered radio: Internet radio, satellite radio, HD radio, podcasting and cell phone apps.
Hanson has also held RAIN Summits -- conferences and exhibitions focusing on the same subjects that RAIN does daily. There have been RAIN Summit East, RAIN Summit West, RAIN Summit Las Vegas, and RAIN Summit North (Canada), but never a RAIN Summit in the Midwest, despite RAIN being headquartered in Chicago. That changes next month.
The first annual RAIN Summit Midwest will take place on Saturday July 17th at the Doubletree Park Place Hotel in Minneapolis, as part of the 35th annual Conclave Learning Conference (an annual event that seeks to improve radio broadcasting via the education of those working within it) taking place there from July 15th through the 17th.
RAIN founder Kurt Hanson said in a statement last night: "I'm thrilled that we're going to be working with the Conclave to spend a half-day together looking at how attendees can best position themselves for the exciting new future. My fervent belief is that after three previous 'Golden Ages' of radio -- the entertainment programs of the '30s and '40s, the 'AM Top 40' era of the '60s and '70s, and the 'AM Talk / FM music' era of the '80s and '90s -- we're on the cusp of entering a fourth 'Golden Age' of radio, driven by Internet-delivered forms that will offer consumers variety, personalization, and ubiquity of access. In this new era, there are going to be huge opportunities for radio professionals -- in marketing, in sales, in programming, and in management -- plus loads of exciting entrepreneurial opportunities as well."
Conclave Executive Director Tom Kay adds, "RAIN Summit Midwest would not be possible without the ongoing support and generous contributions of Coleman Insights and Joel Denver's AllAccess.com. Those registered for the Conclave will automatically be registered to attend the RAIN Summit Midwest. We are also offering special day pass registrations which will allow folks to attend the RAIN Summit Midwest -- as well as our other sessions scheduled on Saturday July 17th -- for only $179."
Speaking of next month's Conclave event... a few very familiar Chicago radio names will be part of the faculty at the 2010 Conclave, including:
Barry James - PD for Bonneville Chicago
Derrick Brown - Director/PD Clear Channel Chicago
Alan Cox - former Q101 personality
John Gehron - former VP/GM of WLS, former GM of Harpo Radio, current COO of AccuRadio*
(*AccuRadio was also founded by the aforementioned Kurt Hanson, who still runs the Chicago-based Internet radio giant.)
