For years, Chicago's WSRB-FM, better known as Soul 106.3, has simulcast its programming on Rockford's WYRB-FM, also known as Soul 106.3, since they both transmit on the same FM frequency and both stations are owned by the Crawford Broadcasting Company.
Starting Wednesday, WYRB becomes Rockford's "Power 106," a virtual clone of Crawford's Power 92.3. It will continue to air the Tom Joyner Morning Show from 5:00am-9:00am, but then play more contemporary Urban music, more similar to WPWX/Power 92.
Since WYRB previously shared a website with WSRB, it will now gain its own website, appearing almost the same as WPWX's.
Barbara McDowell will be the program and music director of Power 106.3. WYRB-FM is a 6,000 watt Class A FM station, which serves the far western to northwestern suburbs, that can be heard from DeKalb to Rockford.
