Sirott: Born for the morn
As he fills in this week and next for regular WGN AM 720 morning man Greg Jarrett, veteran broadcaster Bob Sirott is once again demonstrating that he was born for that job.
Sirott, 60, has deep Chicago roots -- he grew up in the Northwest Side neighborhood where I now live -- and a quick-witted facility with local cultural, sporting and political traditions.
He's fine as a TV news anchor, a reporter and commentator. I never heard him when he was a big-time rock deejay -- I've only lived here 30 years -- but he was certainly listenable during his three-year stint doing WGN AM's noon show.
He's great, however, presiding over the info track meet of a morning news-talk show. You could build an entire radio station on top of Sirott in the morning, and I hope someone tries it.
(For the record, I have no social or professional relationship with Sirott)
