(Really) old school
It was so good, you would swear it had been scripted. While celebrating the Cubs' 1948 Throwback Game on WGN-Ch. 9, Kasper found the perfect way to call Jim Edmonds' ninth-inning, game-tying home run: "Back ... back ... back ... Hey-hey!"
WGN's "high home" camera then zoomed in and out wildly, just as it did for Ernie Banks' 500th blast in 1970. The words "HEY ... HEY" filled the screen.
"That's for you, Jack," Kasper said of his ode to Jack Brickhouse.
For the first two innings Thursday, WGN used vintage graphics and camera angles. This message appeared on the screen: "Don't adjust your set. We know the game is in black & white. It's 1948 for a few innings. So relax and enjoy."
