I'm a 50+ year listener to WGN. I'm 62, and live in Michigan now. WGN does "float my boat."
Radio sucks where I live,(mostly on the bird) but WGN... is still great. I used to listen to WBBM-A once in a while, but they are just a "machine." They sound too mechanical. KMOX in St. Louis does a great job as a CBS affiliate. WGN has personality, and class and superb news. WGN is quite liberal at times, but it's not as "in your face" as wls is conservative.
I ADORED Wally Phillips, Uncle Bobby grew on me, and I cried the day he died. Spike was a C/C-
I liked Mary June (the PD then). She is now in Gastonia, NC. Tom Lamgmeyer, the present GM is a perfect fit for WGN.
I'm not a big Greg Jarrett fan. He won't Facebook friend me. I think Mike McConnell was a D when he came, he's about a C+ now. John Williams has also grown on me. Garry is a B and Sportsnight (though I dislike sports) is a B. Kap and Noonan and Andrea make it very entertaining, but they don't HATE me because I really think sports is BS.
Milt has an OVERBLOWN ego that irritates me, but he is a superb interviewer. Steve & Johnnie are hot and cold. They want people to call with opinions that differ from theirs, then they berate those callers... but I do enjoy real local radio, not from the bird.
Nick is a pain in the ass, but at least he can follow instructions. He stutters and stammers, and has no pipes. He talks about his divorce (who cares?) If he was stupid enough to marry her he must face the consequences). He also has an overgrown ego.
Brian is the best thing on the station (next to the news and Orion). I enjoy Bob Sirrott & his wife, and the lady lawyer on Sunday evenings.
WGN has way improved since pig vomit left. I much disliked "Frenchie." I'm also glad K&J are history, and Roy is retired. I miss Eddie Schwartz.
Thanks for listenin'!
