Feder said back in March:
Few heads turned when a white-bearded eminence waltzed through the WBBM-Channel 2 newsroom one day last week. Most staffers weren’t around — and some weren’t even alive — when the distinguished visitor, Van Gordon Sauter, made his mark as news director of the CBS-owned station, starting way back in 1972.
It was Sauter, along with the station’s vice president and general manager, the late Bob Wussler, who first teamed up Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson, and set CBS 2 on its last sustained run as Chicago’s television news leader.
For those who didn’t know better, Sauter's visit last week was as if Father Time himself had showed up to bestow his blessing on the place.
