WBEZ programmer exits

Ron Jones resigned Wednesday after six years as vice president of programming at Chicago Public Radio WBEZ-FM (91.5).

"It's time now for me to embark on a new adventure, with my eyes and mind wide open to the possibilities," he told staffers in a memo.

Jones came from WGBH-FM in Boston, where he had been program director.

Torey Malatia, president and general manager of Chicago Public Radio, called him "a superbly competent, ideal colleague."

Malatia, who preceded Jones in the role, will oversee programming at the station once again. He'll be assisted by Steve Edwards, who's back from a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan July 7 and assuming the title of acting program director.
