NBC 5 hires sportscaster

WMAQ-Channel 5 has reached out to its NBC-owned sister station in San Francisco for its newest sportscaster.

Daryl Hawks, who's been weekend sports anchor at KNTV-TV for three years, joins Channel 5 as of July 28.

He replaces Ryan Baker, who jumped to CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 after his contract was not renewed.

Hawks, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., an ex-Marine and a graduate of Buffalo State College, briefly played semipro football with the Lockport Invaders in New York.
