During a break in his WGN-AM/720 morning show, Jonathon Brandmeier flips on an audio speaker that projects his voice outside the glass-walled studio onto Michigan Avenue.

“Hey, construction guys!” he calls out to workers toiling on the sidewalk. A bit surprised, a man in a hardhat turns and peers through the bubble to see Mr. Brandmeier talking to him.

“You building a statue of me out there?” Johnny B. asks with a grin. The worker responds with a nod and a laugh: “We just might.”
