PUBLIC RADIO INTERNATIONAL and SMILEY RADIO PROPERTIES' "SMILEY AND WEST" is returning to the CHICAGO airwaves on a pair of commercial radio stations, the show's co-host TAVIS SMILEY announced TODAY (10/31) in a press release. The weekly show, recently dropped by CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WBEZ, will air SUNDAYS at 3p (CT) on NEWSWEB Talk WCPT-A-F (CHICAGO'S PROGRESSIVE TALK) starting on NOVEMBER 4th and SATURDAYS at 11a (CT) on MIDWAY Talk WVON-A.beginning NOVEMBER 10th. In addition, WCPT will also air "THE TAVIS SMILEY SHOW" on SUNDAYS at 2p.
"We are encouraged to see more stations add THE TAVIS SMILEY SHOW/SMILEY & WEST to their airwaves, making it available to more listeners nationwide. The conversations that TAVIS and Dr. (CORNEL) WEST lead are important to understanding our increasingly diverse communities," said PRI President and CEO ALISA MILLER.
The shows have added a new underwriter, the W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION, and will also host a free "Town Hall" event in NOVEMBER 8th, "Poverty, Power, and the Public Airwaves: Post Election Analysis and Commentary from TAVIS SMILEY, CORNEL WEST, and AMY GOODMAN," live and open to the public at NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW in CHICAGO.
