DAN PONCE, WGN-TV/CHICAGO reporter and WLS-AM weekend co-host (with brother ANTHONY), is seeing the story of the a cappella group he founded at INDIANA UNIVERSITY moving into the development stage for a movie.
THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER and TIME OUT CHICAGO's ROBERT FEDER report that a pitch for a movie about STRAIGHT NO CHASER, the group of 10 HOOSIERS led by PONCE who played CARNEGIE HALL and WRIGLEY FIELD, disbanded, and then came back to prominence when a video posted by group member RANDY STINE of its version of "12 Days of CHRISTMAS" went viral in 2006 and led to the group reforming and recording for ATLANTIC RECORDS, has been bought by DREAMWORKS.
ATLANTIC CEO CRAIG KALLMAN and ANONYMOUS CONTENT's MICHAEL SUGAR and BARD DORROS are producing the project. MICHAEL SUCSY, director of "The Vow," is attached as director, and JACK AMIEL and MICHAEL BEGLER are writing the script.
