Honored in absentia
WBBM-Channel 2 has been nominated for a National News and Documentary Emmy Award for its coverage of a CTA train derailment in July 2006.
But in a sign of the times, the two executive producers and two news anchors who fronted the coverage are no longer employed at the CBS-owned station.
Channel 2 was cited Tuesday in the regional news story/spot news category for its reports when an eight-car Blue Line train jumped the tracks just west of the Clark and Lake station. More than 150 people were hurt.
Listed as exec producers on the entry are Caryn Brooks, who was fired in a massive budget cutback last March, and Julie Mangurten, who resigned. Anchors credited are Diann Burns, another casualty of the March massacre, and Antonio Mora, who was demoted last year and moved to WFOR-TV in Miami in January.
The awards will be presented Sept. 22 in New York.
