Arbitron drops paper and pencils down
WGN still leads the market in new radio ratings system
Arbitron's ratings book for spring landed with a thud Tuesday.
That's because it was the last time quarterly ratings would be based on the paper diary method of measuring listenership in Chicago.
With the advent of the new electronic Portable People Meter system, the final diary data was dismissed as dead on arrival by many who questioned its reliability.
For the record, WGN again finished first, with its best spring in three years.
The Tribune Co.-owned news/talk station still ranks first in the PPM world. In a preview of the new data, it was followed by Bonneville International's classic hits WDRV, CBS Radio's all-news WBBM-AM, Bonneville's hot adult-contemporary WTMX and CBS' country WUSN.
Arbitron's spring survey ran from April 3 to June 25.
