Clear Channel settles suit against Tribune Co. over hiring execs
Clear Channel Communications Inc. said Wednesday that it has settled lawsuits with the Tribune Co. over the Chicago-based media company's recent hiring of several executives from the radio giant.
In one federal suit filed in May involving executive Andrew Friedman, Clear Channel alleged that he had breached his employment contract with the company and that the Tribune unlawfully induced the breach.
As part of the settlement, Tribune has agreed not to further solicit or hire Clear Channel employees subject to contracts, in violation of those agreements, said a Clear Channel spokeswoman.
"We are pleased to have reached a settlement with Tribune and our former employees," Andy Levin, Clear Channel's chief legal officer, said in a statement. "Clear Channel values its employees very highly, and we will continue to enforce our rights against any competitor who attempts to interfere with those contractual relationships."
A Tribune spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment.
Tribune, owner of the Chicago Tribune and other media properties, has hired at least four Clear Channel executives in recent months as part of a restructuring of its corporate offices since the company was taken private in December by Chicago real estate billionaire Sam Zell.
