Time Warner To Split AOL Units; Prep For Sale

TIME WARNER is moving closer to a sale or spin-off of AOL as the struggling Internet business continues to drag down results for the overall company, writes TODAY's NEW YORK POST.

The media giant said YESTERDAY (8/6) it will be able to operate AOL's dial-up access and ad businesses separately starting in 2009. The split -- a process that has taken months to complete -- clears the way for a sale of one or both divisions.

"We haven't seen the mass migration into performance-based advertising yet," said AOL CEO RANDY FALCO. "We are seeing a little more strength in display. We're looking at it closely."
