Pena to join WMAQ TV as assistant news director


Chris Pena, who has been executive producer of the late news at NBC-owned WTVJ-TV in Miami, is joining Chicago sister station WMAQ-Ch. 5 as assistant news director Sept. 8, Channel 5 said Monday.

"Chris is a great addition," Frank Whittaker, WMAQ's vice president of news and station manager said in a statement. "He has led WTVJ to several demographic wins in late news and helped launch a new 7 p.m. newscast."

NBC Universal last month announced it plans to sell WTVJ to Post-Newsweek Stations, which owns the ABC affiliate in Miami, pending regulatory approval.

Pena joined WTVJ-TV two years ago from WSCV-TV, Miami's Telemundo outlet, where he was news director.
