Elston To Be Honored By Houston Baseball Media Wall Of Fame

Former HOUSTON ASTROS broadcaster GENE ELSTON will be inducted into the HOUSTON BASEBALL MEDIA WALL OF HONOR, the committee announced WEDNESDAY. ELSTON is just the second individual to receive the honor, following the late pioneering female sports anchor/reporter ANITA MARTINI.

ELSTON, a Hall of Famer who called ASTROS games from their 1962 inception (as the COLT .45S) to 1986, will be presented with his plaque before the SEPTEMBER 24th ASTROS-REDS game at MINUTE MAID PARK, where the WALL is displayed in the press box. His career lasted 47 seasons, starting with minor league ball in WATERLOO in 1947; he moved to the majors with the CHICAGO CUBS in 1954 and called network game coverage for MUTUAL in 1958-60 and CBS RADIO in 1987-97.
