Listeners to Steve Dale's "Pet Central" on WGN-AM (720) Sunday night heard language not normally uttered on the family-friendly news/talk station.

A reporter employed by Metro Networks/Shadow Broadcast Services, who entered a Metro Networks studio with a microphone that had been left open to WGN, let the F word slip out. (And we don't mean "Fido.")

"While this incident was completely unintentional and originated outside of WGN, we are very sorry that it made it onto our air," said Tom Langmyer, vice president and general manager of the Tribune Co.-owned station.
