Flying Officer Mike Mathis has resigned after 18 years as a traffic reporter at Tribune Co.-owned news/talk WGN-AM (720) to rejoin the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

Mathis had spent eight years before that as a sheriff's deputy reporting traffic for WGN.
