A spirited bidding war broke out Friday during the 12th annual Good Neighbor Radiothon on CBS Radio all-news WBBM-AM (780). The coveted prize was an opportunity to have lunch with Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn.
When two listeners kept trying to outbid each other, Quinn suggested that he have lunch with both of them. The result was $10,500 for the coffers of the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation.
The 19-hour event raised a grand total of $122,000 to feed the hungry and homeless in the Chicago area -- up 62 percent from last year's donations.
