Wycliff takes position at Loyola
Don Wycliff, a former public editor and editorial page editor at the Chicago Tribune, has accepted a one-year faculty appointment to teach reporting and editing this fall at Loyola University Chicago's School of Communication, the school announced today.
Wycliff, 61,resigned earlier this year from the University of Notre Dame, where he had been associate vice president of news and information since leaving the Tribune in 2006. While his work at Notre Dame primarily involved being a spokesman for his alma mater, he did teach a media criticism course.
"I look forward to being able to focus completely on teaching and on the students," Wycliff said in a statement. "I have always enjoyed teaching, and I am looking forward to doing this full-time. After all these years, it is time to pass on whatever wisdom I can, and I am really grateful for this opportunity."
Wycliff was editorial page editor of the Tribune from 1991 to 2000, spending the next six years as its public editor. He previously had two stints at the New York Times, first as an editor of the paper's Week in Review section and later as a member of its editorial board. He also worked for at the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Daily News, among other papers.
"Having Don Wycliff join us is a great addition to a strong faculty and demonstrates Loyola's continuing commitment to build an outstanding communication school," Donald Heider, dean of Loyola Chicago's School of Communications, said in the release.
