Fall season
There's no 'Love' left for Tommy Edwards
Friday will be Tommy Edwards' last day as morning personality on adult-contemporary WILV-FM (100.3).
But don't expect the Chicago radio icon to be off the air here for long.
Starting Monday, he'll be replaced on the Bonneville International station by Brian Peck, who has been hosting afternoons.
Succeeding Peck will be Brian Middleton, who'll move up from evenings (but continue to host the 9 p.m. weeknight dance show).
The decision not to renew Edwards, whose two-year contract expires in October, was described to staffers as a budget matter.
"I'm very proud we had the opportunity to work together," said Barry James, program director of Love FM. "Tommy Edwards is a true radio legend, and we appreciate his great contribution to our station."
For his part, Edwards said: "I understand business decisions are made, and I have no ill feelings toward Bonneville."
Just before joining Love FM, Edwards had been morning personality (along with co-host Larry Lujack), program director and operations manager at Clear Channel Radio's former "Real Oldies" WRLL.
But he'll always be best known for his long run at Citadel Broadcasting ex-Top 40 WLS-AM (890), where he and Lujack made radio history with their "Animal Stories" feature.
Those call letters are likely to figure into Edwards' future. He could be joining Citadel oldies WLS-FM (94.7) as a weekend host.
In the meantime, he's gearing up for his 17th season as public-address announcer for the Bulls, starting Oct 9.
