If ever there were two media stars you shouldn't invite to the same party they were Jerry Springer and Carol Marin.
Marin made worldwide headlines in 1997 when she quit Channel 5 as top news anchor in disgust over the syndicated talk show host's ill-fated role on the 10 p.m. news as a commentator. Since then, the two have been the ultimate "don't invite-em item."
Until now.
Credit Frank Sennett, editor-in-chief of TimeOut Chicago, for bringing Springer and Marin together in a photo for a special issue of the magazine that's out today.
The two are among the "cultural heroes of Chicago" named in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the TimeOut brand. Their meeting on neutral ground (at the new Loop studios of CBS) was, by all accounts, quite friendly.
"It was fine -- kind of funny, actually," Marin said of the unexpected encounter. "So don't die of shock at the sight of it."
