: Johnson promotes Ward to president : : : Anne Sempowski Ward was promoted Wednesday to president and chief operating officer of Johnson Publishing Co., second to Linda Johnson Rice atop the Chicago publisher of Ebony and Jet magazines. : Before joining Johnson Publishing a year ago as president and chief operating officer of Johnson's Fashion Fair Cosmetics brand, which she will continue to oversee, Ward, 36, was assistant vice president of African-American marketing for the Coca-Cola Co. and spent more than a decade at Procter & Gamble Co. : Rice, 50, the company's chief executive and daughter of its founder, John H. Johnson, takes on her father's title of chairman as she relinquishes the presidency to Ward at what has been a family-run operation for 66 years. The elder Johnson died in 2005. : "Anne has a proven track record of successful leadership," Rice said in a statement. : "She is a visionary with a strategic focus on growth for Johnson Publishing Co.
