Condolences to family and friends of comedy writer, actor, and former "Golden Age" radio actor BILL IDELSON, who died of complications from a broken hip in LOS ANGELES.

IDELSON started his career playing Skeezix on a radio version of the "GASOLINE ALLEY" comic strip on WGN-A/CHICAGO in 1931, and the next year was cast as son RUSH on the comic soap opera "VIC AND SADE." After serving in the NAVY during WORLD WAR II, he moved to HOLLYWOOD, where he became a successful actor, most notably in the recurring role of Sally's hapless boyfriend HERMAN on "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW," and writer on shows like "HAPPY DAYS," "GET SMART," "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW," "THE BOB NEWHART SHOW," and many others. He also taught scriptwriting and wrote three books.
