You see him live and local at the parade lines and on New Year's Eve.... so a return to the Chicago radio airwaves would be live and local too, right?

Well maybe not. From Robert Feder:

Doug Banks, one of Chicago's all-time favorite radio personalities, is returning to the station that started it all for him here.

Clear Channel Radio urban adult-contemporary WVAZ-FM (102.7) has signed on as the first affiliate of Banks' new afternoon show, syndicated by ABC Radio.

Starting Monday, Banks and co-host DeDe McGuire will be heard on V103 from 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays.

The move returns him to the frequency once known as WBMX, where Banks first signed on as morning host in 1982. It also reunites him with V103 syndicated morning star Tom Joyner, with whom Banks worked at Clear Channel urban contemporary WGCI-FM (107.5).

"Doug Banks is one of Chicago radio's greatest entertainers, and we are beyond ecstatic about him joining the V103 family," said program director Derrick Brown. "We are reuniting 'The Turntable Brothers' with Tom Joyner in the morning and Doug Banks in the afternoon."

Since 1996, Banks had been hosting a nationally syndicated morning show for ABC Radio. It ended its run Dec. 31.

He will continue to originate his show from studios in Dallas.

Even when he was off the radio here, Banks maintained a high profile in the market as a regular contributor to "190 North," the weekly magazine show on ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7.

Calling his return to Chicago "a special homecoming for me," Banks told this column: "This is the town where my career jumped to the next level, and hit national syndication with ABC Radio 12 years ago. To return here now and launch this show with DeDe that will reach out to listeners across the country with a new, youthful brand of adult urban-contemporary is a phenomenal opportunity."

To accommodate Banks' new show, V103 is adjusting its lineup.

As of Monday, Joyner will air from 5 to 10 a.m., adding a fifth hour of material exclusively for Chicago listeners.

He'll be followed by Troi Tyler from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Banks from 2 to 6 p.m., Ramonski Luv and Joe Soto from 6 to 9 p.m., Irene Mojica from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Ericka "Sundance" Campbell from 1 to 5 a.m.

Mojica also has added a show from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Promoting his return to the station, Banks will turn up in V103 studios alongside Luv and Soto from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday.

It's an undeniable boost for V103, which tied with WGCI for fourth place overall in the last Arbitron quarterly survey and was No. 1 among those between the ages of 25 and 54.

"V103 now has the strongest stable of talent in Chicago radio with Tom Joyner, Doug Banks, Troi Tyler, Ramonski Luv, Joe Soto, Irene Mojica and Sundance," Brown said.
