I wonder what took CBS so long. He was a wannabe elitest. He ruined a lot of careers. Especially men of color. He always had a problem with us. His persona of being a lower class Irish American from Philly, and working his way to the top of this business was his pitch. Well we all know that the city of brotherly love, was never very lovingly to the brothers. And neither was Joe Ahern. The general public never new that he systematically fired 100% of the minority males in management at WBBM. He personally told me "I have 15 polo pony's, I don't need this (WBBM) job." How condescending! He didn't park his car in the lot next to the station, he'd park his car "in" the station at the loading dock. Having security move it when deliveries were made, and deliveries were made 3 or 4 times a day. He wanted to be like Norm in the sitcom "Cheers" Where everybody knows his name. He'd purposely come thru the newsroom (his office was not in that direction) and you'd hear "Joe, joe, joe, joe." That was his cup of ego in the morning.
I know I sound like a disgruntled employee that was fired, but I worked in the news business for over twenty five years. I've covered stories all over the world, but it wasn't until I encountered Joe Ahern that my career was snuffed out. He's a man small in stature and even smaller in character. Good riddance. But the sad thing is that white men like Ahern always land on their feet. Probably because they're so many of them and they keep hiring each other.
Peace and Blessings to all.
