Saturday telethon for Daisy's Resource Center
Effie Rolfe, the "queen" of Sunday morning gospel on radio station V103 at 102.7 FM, will help host the fourth annual telethon for Daisy's Resource and Developmental Center in North Chicago on Saturday.
The telethon will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Comcast Studios, 1585 Waukegan Road, Waukegan, and will be broadcast on Cable Access Channel 17.
Donors may pledge in advance or pledge live during the broadcast by calling (847) 473-3372. Organizers have also added a line for Spanish-speaking donors to call: (847) 473-3692.
Daisy's Resource Center, at 1919 Dr. Daisy M. Brooks Drive, has helped more than 1,000 at-risk young people earn their GEDs and vocational training since 1989. It offers an alternative high school, day care and other support services to help young adults gain self-sufficiency.
The telethon will feature speakers and performers, including the Rev. Gerald Wilcoxon, pastor of Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, as well as other local pastors, Glenn Johnson and the Voices of Inner Peace. Other performers will include First Corinthian Priase Dancers, the Corinthian Spirituals, Grandma's Boys, Word of Life Ministries choir and dance ministries, and Christian Valley Praise Dancers.
All contributors, who this year can use PayPal, will be recognized on-air during the event. For more information, call (847) 473-4898 and ask for Dr. Daisy Brooks.
