WVON gets a new voice in the morning

Jeremy Levitt was installed this morning as the new 6 a.m.-to-9 a.m. weekday host on Midway Broadcasting's WVON-AM 1690.

Levitt replaces CNN and TV One contributor Roland Martin, the former Chicago Defender editor who left earlier this month to become senior news analyst for Tom Joyner's nationally syndicated morning show, heard locally on Clear Channel's WVAZ-FM (102.7).

Billed as the "Blue Collar Scholar," Levitt is associate dean and professor of international law at Florida A&M University College of Law in Orlando and a law professor at Florida International University College of Law in Miami, according to the biography on his Web site, www.drjeremylevitt.com.

Levitt has traveled, researched or worked in 27 African nations and is author of "The Evolution of Deadly Conflict in Liberia: From 'Paternaltarianism' to State Collapse." He is now at work on a second book, "Illegal Peace?: Examining the Legality of Power-Sharing With African Warlords and Rebels," which will examine the legality of power-sharing in peace agreements.

"Dr. Jeremy Levitt is a new young dynamo that will enhance the station with his charismatic energy, intelligence and conversation that we have come to expect from the morning shows on WVON," LaMont Watts, the station's program director, said in a statement.
