One week after her firing from WMAQ-Channel 5 made her front-page news, Amy Jacobson officially signed off Wednesday with the NBC-owned station.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Jacobson said she was now free to work elsewhere with no strings attached. At the time of her dismissal, she still had more than four months to go on her contract.
Asked if she was happy with the settlement, Jacobson said: "I'm sad it had to end this way, but getting something is better than nothing. I put 11 years of my life into that job."
Larry Wert, president and general manager of Channel 5, declined to comment Wednesday.
Jacobson was fired after rival CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 videotaped her July 6 wearing a towel and a two-piece swimsuit by the backyard pool of Craig Stebic, whose estranged wife, Lisa, has been missing since April 30.
After discussing it with her husband, Jacobson said she took her kids to the Stebic residence, where they all went swimming with other mothers and children.
In negotiating her separation deal, Jacobson was represented by attorney Kathleen Zellner. She previously had been working with talent agents Todd and Brian Musburger, who could re-enter the picture if and when she begins fielding job offers.
With Zellner in tow, Jacobson still could pursue legal action against Channel 2 over the tape that led to her downfall.
