'It was the best paper ... in the world'
Nov. 5 historic edition of Sun-Times one of Oprah's favorite things
November 7, 2008
The Chicago Sun-Times paper announcing Barack Obama's presidential victory is one of Oprah's favorite things.
A day after parading on stage with a copy of the Wednesday paper, featuring a black-and-white portrait of Obama on the cover, Oprah Winfrey called the front page the best of the best.
"It was the best paper of all the papers in the world," Winfrey told actor Will Smith during Thursday's live show in Chicago.
Since Wednesday morning, the Sun-Times has been nearly overwhelmed with requests for additional copies, but it's kept the presses rolling. By Thursday, the company had printed an additional 350,000 copies.
More copies were made available at newsstands, and nearly 20,000 copies were sold to customers who came to the Sun-Times store at 350 N. Orleans on Thursday.
Copies of Wednesday's paper can be purchased at the Sun-Times store for $5, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Other memorabilia is available, too. Back issues also can be ordered by phone at (866) 614-5196 or online at suntimes.com/backissues for $10 a copy, which includes shipping.
