Walter Jacobson, whose name was synonymous with Chicago political commentary for more than 40 years, is back in the game.

The legendary former anchor has been hired as commentator and news analyst for "Eight Forty-Eight," the daily newsmagazine program on Chicago Public Radio WBEZ-FM (91.5).

In addition to airing weekly commentaries each Friday, he will provide post-election news analysis on Wednesday's show.

Plans also call for Jacobson to join the rotation of guest hosts on "Eight Forty-Eight," which airs from 9 to 10 a.m. (and repeats from 8 to 9 p.m.) weekdays.

Jacobson, 70 and still feisty as ever, clearly relishes his new role.

"WBEZ and NPR have been iconic to me since I wrote my first commentary," he said. "What a wonderful chance for me to pop off again. I've got so much more to say."
