WGN'S NEW MORNING MAN
Seven Questions with John Williams
On December 15th, John Williams takes to the airwaves...in the morning! WGN is thrilled to announce John Williams as the new morning host on News/Talk 720 WGN. You'll be able to catch John from 5-9am every Monday-Friday, but before he goes out to buy a backup alarm clock, we asked John to participate in our Seven Questions feature here at The Voice. Here's a little inside look at the man who was an intern at WGN Radio when he was in college...the man who thinks seedless watermelon is one of the best inventions ever...and the man who we hope you'll be spending your morning coffee and commute with starting mid December!
1) What are your hopes for the morning show?
I love the show I'm doing now. And the morning show is such a different creature! My hope is to keep the fun energy and information and conversation we provide from 1 - 4. At the same time, I want to keep the morning show at WGN humming along. As they say, if it ain't broke... That's the challenge I'm looking forward to.
2) What would be the title of your autobiography?
Lean Forward
3) You always say "If I became King...". If you actually did become king (and assuming the United States even had one), what would be your first order of business?
I don't even think about that much; stuff just usually comes up and I think - heck, I could fix that. ANYONE could. For instance, if I became king, it would be against the law to talk on the phone while sitting in a restaurant. Right?
4) Who would your dream interview on your new morning show be?
Well, Barack Obama would be a good start. I'd like to interview Kanye West. I've talked to both but I'm sure there are some things they'd still like to ask me.
5) What's your pizza topping of choice?
Canadian bacon and green olives. I hardly ever get this since I usually share a pizza with someone else, but if it were just for me....
6) What song can't you stop listening to right now?
White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes
7) Describe your perfect day
Up at 6am, play basketball with my friends til 8. Come home, check out my rock hard abs in mirror and then shower. I drink some coffee and read the Trib article about how Cinnabons are now good for you. My neighbor Mr. Zwit just then swings by with Cinnabons and then he leaves. Then I do some yard work. Have some lunch. Then we watch my son Grant play baseball in a doubleheader. Come home and wash my car. Then eat some Sour Apple, Red Apple, Watermelon, Cherry and Tangerine Jelly Belly jellybeans. Then go to the movies with my wife, Brenda, and my son, Griffin. Then we go out for dinner and have a nice time talking about the movie and my abs. Then we come home and Griffin goes into his room to read the Bible (his brother is already there. And frankly, if his brother would be reading anything in there, I would be happy about that). So then while they are up reading the bible or Sports Illustrated, my wife and I have some coffee and Baker's Square Chocolate Silk pie or homemade apple crisp and vanilla ice cream. And some sort of after dinner drink. We are watching a fire and a movie and I'm reading a book, and as Brenda gazes at my abs we both fall asleep. At 9:45pm.
