Sirott moves to WMAQ-TV's 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts on Jan. 5, as Saunders cuts back
Frank Whittaker, WMAQ-Ch. 5's station manager and vice president of news, told staff this week that Jan. 5 is the official date that Warner Saunders will begin co-anchoring only the station's 10 p.m. newscast, leaving his 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. duties to Bob Sirott.
Marion Brooks, who has been partnered with Sirott at 4:30 p.m., will front that newscast alone.
Saunders earlier this year announced his plans to reduce his workload next month in anticipation of retiring at the end of May ratings period. No announcement has been made on his eventual 10 p.m. successor alongside 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. co-anchor Allison Rosati.
Sirott also hosts a midday program for Chicago Tribune parent Tribune Co.'s WGN-AM 720.
