The Chicago PD domino game began with WGN hiring Kevin Metheny.

That led Bob Shomper from WGN (720) over to Citadel's WLS (890) - and to Kipper McGee being out (with no notice) at 'LS. It's hard to know what each individual was thinking, but it might go like this - Metheny is somebody Tribune's Randy Michaels would feel very comfortable with at WGN radio. (From their days at Jacor/Clear Channel.) So that hire is made. And Bob Shomper - who once programmed WLS sister WBAP, Ft. Worth-Dallas (820) - is somebody Citadel would feel comfortable with at WLS. And Kipper McGee is the casualty. There are rumors of other cuts at WLS, but so far those are just rumors. (Did all the talent get their pending contracts signed?) Events moved very quickly, and Midwestern radio folks are still in a tizzy, getting their arms around the notion that Metheny (the former Howard Stern Pig Vomit/Pig Virus) is now programming the mighty WGN. They don't doubt his programming bona fides - but it's taking some getting used to.
