Brewers narrow search for Powell replacement

WTMJ Radio and the Brewers have narrowed their search for a replacement for broadcaster Jim Powell to two candidates, according to an industry source.
Cory Provus, who handles the Chicago Cubs pre-game show for WGN Radio, may be the leading candidate, followed by Jeff Munn, who handles pre- and post-game radio shows for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Provus, a native of Highland Park, Ill., is a graduate of Syracuse University. Provus' duties included handling play-by-play announcing for one inning in games on WGN Radio. The Cubs' regular play-by-play voice, Pat Hughes, worked for 12 seasons with Bob Uecker on Brewers broadcasts.
Provus could be the leading candidate in part because of his familiarity with the National League Central, the Brewers' division.
Powell left the Brewers after 13 seasons to become the radio voice of the Atlanta Braves.
