Seven Questions with...
David Kaplan
In this month's edition of "Seven Questions," we chat with David Kaplan, WGN Radio sports reporter and host of Sports Central, heard weeknights from 7-9pm.
-------------------------------------
1) Who is your favorite athlete that you have interviewed? Who would you love to interview that you haven't?
My favorite athlete that I have ever interviewed is either Charles Barkley or Ryan Dempster. I would love to interview Derek Jeter who I think is one of the great leaders in sports.
2) What would listeners be surprised to learn about you?
I think that listeners would be surprised to know that I had 9 1/2 hours of heart surgery in 1991. The reason for it came out of nowhere and my heart stopped for 15 seconds, which I remember. It was an eye opening experience and that is why I smile every single day that I am alive! I don't worry about the things that I cannot control!
3) What are your favorite sports to watch, play and report on?
Watch: baseball, football, and golf
Play: baseball and golf
Report on: baseball and basketball
4) How do you find time to do all that you do and balance everything?
How do I find time to do all that I do? I am the luckiest person in the world. I don't work for a living. Sure, I put in a lot of time doing radio, TV, and calling games, but I don't look at it as work. I have a fabulous wife, a great son, three great step sons, and the three best dogs in the world. So add it all up and I feel that the good Lord smiles on me everyday.
5) What sports figure did you idolize as a child above all others?
I always idolized Ron Santo. He was my favorite player growing up so to work with him and consider him a friend is unreal for me!
6) Did you really wear one of those Snuggies that are advertised on TV to the Blackhawks Winter Classic game at Wrigley Field? I heard it mentioned on the air.
I wouldn't be caught dead in a Snuggie EVER! They are brutal!
7) What would be the title of your autobiography?
I Get Paid to Talk Sports (I Must Have Won the Lottery!)
(WGN's "The Voice")
