Local man to anchor morning PBS radio news

MERRILLVILLE | Hammond resident Ed Smaron recently joined Lakeshore Public Radio, The Lakeshore 89.1 FM, as a morning news anchor, the station announced Monday.
Smaron formerly served as news and traffic reporter for Metro Network/Shadow Broadcasting on the air at WBBM-AM 780, WLS-AM 890 and WGN-AM 720.
A working actor with television and film credits that include The Express (2008) and the TNT series Leverage, Smaron has lent his voice to numerous commercials, the station reported. He has performed in professional theater in Chicago and Los Angeles and worked as a musical director with famed Chicago comedy troupe, The Second City.
In addition to his work at The Lakeshore, Smaron is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and contributor to The Actor's Fund, Kaufherr Members Resource Center and the Northwest Indiana Food Bank. He is a Purdue University Calumet graduate with a bachelor of education degree.
The FM PBS radio station is a subsidiary of Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc., which transmits Lakeshore PBS TV.
The station is expected to provide extensive local coverage soon at it serves more than 500,000 listeners in Northwest Indiana's lakeshore region. The Lakeshore broadcasts from Lowell with offices in Merrillville.
