WLS-TV names Jason Knowles new general assignment reporter

Jason Knowles, who has been a special projects producer at Chicago's WLS-Ch. 7 since 2004, has been named a general assignment reporter by the ABC-owned station.

Knowles previously was an investigative reporter at WTVG-TV, the ABC-owned station. He also worked as a reporter for WKAG-TV in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Charles Thomas, who was a general assignment reporter for WLS, was bumped up to political reporter, replacing Andy Shaw, who retired in January. Dan Ponce, another Channel 7 general assignment reporter, surprised bosses by quitting to pursue a music career with his a cappella group, Straight No Chaser.

"I'm excited about promoting someone from our ranks who has worked so hard and am confident he has the experience, energy and work ethic to succeed in the reporter position," Jennifer Graves, WLS' vice president and news director, said of Knowles in the announcement.
