WCPT has done a good job of making waves recently.
From Feder:
Like the proverbial firehorse answering the bell, Dick Kay is back on the beat he covered for nearly 40 years.
Although he retired in 2006 as political editor at NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, the lure of a presidential election campaign proved too powerful to resist.
So starting March 8, he'll host a two-hour weekly talk show, "Dick Kay: Back on the Beat," at 2 p.m. Saturdays on Newsweb Radio progressive talk WCPT-AM (820).
His hiring as the first local personality to join the station's lineup of syndicated hosts grew out of the role he played Feb. 6 when he and Jerry Springer guest-hosted a local recap of the Super Tuesday primary results.
"It's good to be back on the beat," said Kay, 71. "This is a bad year to be sitting on the sidelines. I always enjoyed being involved in the political discourse, and I can't thank WCPT enough for making room for my voice in this exciting election year."
Noting that his new radio show will allow him, his guests and callers more time to share their thoughts than the typical TV news piece, he added: "This will be a liberating experience."
Harvey Wells, vice president and group station manager for Newsweb Radio, praised Kay's knowledge and experience, adding: "With a two-hour weekly show, Chicago is going to hear a completely different side of Dick Kay in addition to the political side that they already know."
Kay's show joins a revamped Saturday lineup on WCPT that includes a return to the market for "Whad'Ya Know?" Michael Feldman's comedy/quiz show, airing from 10 a.m. to noon.
