Interesting quotes from John starting at 8:12 in:

"A radio station that proves to the community that it is in, that it is a part of that community, then that radio station will be listened to."

"Making a personal appearance is one way of showing that you are involved in the community."

"The FCC says that the airwaves are owned by the public. And you got to go meet the public... they own you."

While many people can blame corporate radio for not being part not being involved in the community (and they are right in many instances), I have also seen where on air staff will not go out and meet the public.

IMHO John has nailed it right on the head... and it seems that many (not all) stations have forgotten this!
