NAME: Dennis Miller
TITLE: Host
SHOW: The Dennis Miller Show
MARKET: National
COMPANY: Westwood One

1. After standup, television, Monday Night Football, writing, acting... why talk radio? What attracted you to the medium? What appeals to you about talk radio?
For a long time I felt I played best in short bursts (10 minutes on Leno, 8 second jokes between football plays, etc.). As my beliefs, and thus my humor, became more intricate, I felt the extrapolative nature of radio would better serve me.
2. Compared to the rest of the entertainment industry, your political views are to the right (although you're not doctrinaire conservative). Has the atmosphere for non-liberals changed in the industry over the years -- do you sense that it's more acceptable to not follow the liberal line in the entertainment industry these days, or is there still a sense that dissent isn't fully tolerated if they're aware of your leanings?
I would say that, in many cases, Conservative views in Hollywood can cost you but I don't believe it has hurt me, because my job has always been to candidly speak my mind.
3. What do you feel your show offers talk radio stations and listeners that other shows don't (besides the obvious, namely your presence)? What makes the show different?
I would say that the show is not as argumentative as some and funnier than others.
4. How much talk radio do you listen to? Who among your peers/competitors, nationally and locally, are your favorites?
A lot! I like "Movin' The Chains" on NFL Radio, Rush Limbaugh, and Mark Levin.
5. It's early, of course, but what's your impression of Obama's performance so far? What do you expect he will have accomplished by the end of this term?
I like Obama as a guy but I think he's guessin' like the rest of us. I hope he's guessing correctly because he guesses expensive guesses.
6. What gets you angry?
Pelosi and plastic zippers on the top of lunch meat packets that don't zip.
7. You're known for your erudition and eclectic references to pop culture, history, and pretty much everything else. Has there ever been a moment, on the radio, in your standup, on TV, wherever, when you dropped a reference and thought, geez, that one was too esoteric even for me?
Not really. It's my only monkey trick. What else am I gonna do?
8. A stock question in these interviews is to ask what you think you'd be doing now had you not gone into the business, but you've done such a wide range of things, that question doesn't really work for you. Let's try this: Is there any vocation you haven't done yet that you'd still like to give a shot? Running for political office, for example?
No, certainly not politics. Hmm... I guess skimming a Honey Nut Cheerio bog.
9. Who makes you laugh these days (other than the Congress and Senate)?
Brian Regan is the funniest man in the world.
10. What's the best advice you've ever received? The worst?
Best-"Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'" -- Morgan Freeman, "The Shawshank Redemption."

Bad advice doesn't make it to the inside of my ear.
